Literary Analysis of To Kill a Mockingbird
Many stories, especially older ones, have many characters that show a prejudice towards others. Prejudice may be shown to characters with different religions, races, genders, and disabilities. One book that shows many examples of prejudice towards characters in the book in multiple ways is the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in a small southern town during the Great Depression that is filled with many prejudices shown. The biggest prejudice present is a major prejudice against blacks. The blacks in the story are forced to live outside of town and many white folks of the town dislike them. Many people of the town treat blacks as bottom of the pyramid people. They are called names, and walked all over. They are treated completely unfairly.
There is another major prejudice shown towards the mentally disabled. One of the town families, the Radleys, have a disabled son named Arthur who is mistreated and talked about throughout the town. All of the townspeople spread nasty rumors and stories about this disabled man.
The final prejudice is against women. Woman in the story who do not act “lady like “are considered strange and are judged many of the townspeople. Woman and girls are treated completely different in this story and half to be a certain way. Woman in the town rarely to work unless black and are forced to stay within the boundaries of stereotypes. Men are seen as superior to all women.
These are all examples of very common prejudices towards people used in classic writing. It is used to enhance the setting of stories and put you in a southern time period of prejudice towards many people.
